American Heart Month - February!

February is American Heart Month and we will be observing this by participating in Jump Rope For Heart. All fundraising materials will be sent home February 10th and the P.E. instructors will be coming around to classrooms with a video and presentation about the program. The fundraiser will be running from February 10th-26th. The students do not have to collect pledges as in past years. They will just be taking donations. There will be prizes awarded to those who collect donations, starting with just the first $5.

Throughout the month, we will put a focus on heart health and the importance of staying active. Encourage your students to ask questions and share stories. They may know someone who has been affected by some heart illness and so can bring a different perspective to their classmates. There are some great resources available online for educators including lesson plans, activities and facts. The address is listed below.

As a kickoff to the fundraiser next week, we will be observing National Wear Red Day on Friday, February 7th. Please encourage your students to wear red on this day as a symbol that they want to remain heart healthy. Maybe even get them excited about it by offering some kind of reward for those that do wear red. Extra recess or a few extra credit points.

If students wear red tomorrow, they still need to bring $1 and 2 canned goods or $3 if no canned goods.
